Winter Season Meal at True Food Kitchen

One day I was walking down Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, California with my best friend, and I came across True Food Kitchen. I had never heard of it or noticed it before but in my defense, I had been living in Northern California for the past four years. I went home that night and looked into the restaurant. I was quickly intrigued by their rotating menu driven by ingredients that are at their freshness during the season. True Food provides gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options to its customers. Highly intrigued by the vegan options and wowed by the ambiance, I decided to make a visit to True Food Kitchen.

A couple of tasty drinks at hand, the only disappointing moment of the night was when I was informed that they had run out of their Farmers Market Sangria. I love sangria, and I enjoy drinking it at dinner. I noticed it on their menu and easily decided to make it my evening drink but then I was sadly informed that they had run out. I ended up with a pomegranate mule that night which wasn't a disappointment. NOTE: Our visit to True Food Kitchen was before the new year, so I didn't consider which hard liquor I was drinking that night. As a new vegan, I have learned that I need to be aware of whether or not my alcohol is vegan. Crazy thought, right?

Overall, the food is very good and the aesthetic/design of the restaurant is casual during the day turn romantic at night. I think my favorite dish was the Charred Cauliflower. Initially, I was concerned that it was going to be dry in texture and flavor. The cauliflower retained its moisture and absorbed all of the spices that were cooked with this dish: harissa tahini, Medjool date, mint, dill, etc. The butternut squash pizza was very tasty. The most impressive topping on this dish was their vegan almond ricotta. I am pretty picky when it comes to vegan cheeses, but this almond ricotta accomplished texture and flavor without cruelty. True Food Kitchen pays special attention to every detail, from their ingredients to the design of their bathrooms. Simply walking into the woman's restroom was like stepping into a spa. Soft lighting, fancy faucets, and beautiful backsplashes. I will return to True Food Kitchen again. I left the restaurant feeling satisfied with my meal without any greasy bloated feeling in my stomach. Thankfully, True Food Kitchen has many locations throughout the United States. Pasadena is not the only city where one can taste fresh ingredients at its finest.
